The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process for those seeking to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church. Whether you have already made the decision, or you would just like to see what Catholicism is about, this is the path for you.

OCIA at St. John the Baptist traditionally starts in the fall with a period known as Inquiry. Here, those interested attend informal sessions to discover what it is they desire in the Church. This time is designed for them to encounter Jesus Christ and grow in their relationship with Him. Those who choose to continue in the process eventually enter the period of the Catechumenate and begin the formal process of faith formation where the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church are explained.

The final stage of the journey coincides with the First Sunday of Lent. Instruction in the sacramental, moral, and spiritual life of the church, as well as the purification of minds and hearts, is the focus as we prepare for the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil.

The final period of the journey into the Catholic Church is known as Mystagogy, which is a catechesis of the mysteries. Coinciding with the Easter Season of the Church, we discuss more fully what happened during the sacramental rituals of the Easter Vigil.

Please contact Jon Konrade, the Director of Faith Formation and Evangelization, if you would like to discuss becoming Catholic or finishing your Sacraments if you were baptized in the Catholic Church.  He can be reached at This email address is being protected from spambots.
