Religious Formation Commission
This commission is tasked to work with the parish Director of Religious Education (DRE) to assess the religious formation needs and opportunities of parishioners of all life stages and to identify and prioritize resources to develop and support programs fulfilling those needs. Ministries and activities include:
Adult Education
Adult religious educational programs provide opportunities for parishioners to continue to grow in their love of Jesus Christ and the knowledge of our Catholic faith. Opportunities include Men’s and Women’s Bible Studies, Parish Missions, and Parish Retreats.
Catholic Youth Organization (CYO)
Assist in planning and supervising activities for high school youth of the parish designed to foster personal and spiritual growth and encourage participation in the life of the Church.
Faith Formation (CCD)
Youth of St. John the Baptist Parish attending public school have the opportunity to attend Faith Formation sessions on Wednesday evenings for 1st through 12th grades. These sessions are primarily held at St. John’s School and run from 7:00pm - 8:00pm throughout the school year.
National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC)
The National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) is the largest gathering of Catholic teenagers (9th – 12th grades) in the United States. Held every two years, this three-day event is an opportunity for thousands of young Catholics to engage in inspirational presentations, vibrant worship and energetic activities. Fundraising activities will occur to help pay for this trip.
Natural Family Planning and Fertility Care
The Creighton Model Fertility System is based upon the knowledge and understanding of the naturally occurring phases of fertility and infertility and can be helpful for all women of reproductive age.
OCIA (formerly RCIA)
Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) recently underwent a name change to better reflect the original Latin name and to emphasize the ongoing conversion and development of candidates and catechumens in the faith formation process. OCIA is the process for welcoming new members into the Catholic Church.
Parish Retreats and Missions
We hope to provide future opportunities for parish retreats, and we welcome input from those interested in helping to build this ministry.
Prayer and Action
During this summer program, high school students travel to one of two diocesan locations for a week of community service and spiritual development, centering around exterior home maintenance and repair and landscaping for elderly or otherwise disadvantaged homeowners.
Totus Tuus Summer Program
This week-long Parish Summer Catechetical Program is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic Faith through fun and engaging evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness and Eucharistic worship.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
This weeklong summer catechetical program is scheduled for the younger children during the same week as Totus Tuus. Sessions are held each morning from 9:00am until 11:15am.
