Confirmation is the completion of the Grace given to us at our Baptism. Here we are given the gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord. These gifts give the full power of the Holy Spirit to a Christian. "Confirmation" means a strengthening -- this sacrament strengthens and increases what we receive at baptism, particularly the power of bearing witness to Christ. To emphasize this, the ceremony of confirmation includes a renewal of our baptismal promises. We now become full-fledged members of the Church, ready to fulfill the Church’s mission of evangelization.

Sacramental Preparation

Students attending St. John’s Catholic School or Religious Education classes, typically prepare for Confirmation in tenth grade and receive the Sacrament at a special Mass celebrated by the bishop. Parents of those receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation are asked to participate in Parent Sacramental Sessions to model and help your child develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.   Older teens and adults are prepared for Confirmation through a process called the OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults).
